A experience, entitled “Nature, Yoga and Stars” and designated by promoters as an activity “which combines science, nature and well-being”, is organized by Epic Land, with the support of the municipality of Pampilhosa da Serra and ADXTUR – Agency for the Tourist Development of the Villages of Xisto.
The program starts at 4:00 p.m. on August 12th, with a reception to the participants in the village of Fajão, followed by a walk “of reduced difficulty” to Geocospe, the astronomical observatory located outdoors on the outskirts of that village of the Serra do Açor, inside the district of Coimbra.
“ At the end of the afternoon, the participants will have the opportunity to observe the solar eclipse, to learn more about this phenomenon through an explanation oriented and to participate in a photographic session”, the organization said in the statement sent to the agency Lusa, alluding to the phenomenon that, in the Central region, will be visible at sunset between 96% and 98% of all.
After observation of the eclipse – mandatory through protective goggles, made available by promoters – with the arrival of the night there will be a viewing session of the Perseidas.
“ Guided by Samuel Batista, the observation session will allow you to follow the peak of the Perseidas meteor shower, observe Saturn through the telescope and participate in a photo session under the Milky Way, taking advantage of the exceptional quality of Fajão’s sky.”.
“ Over a single day, participants follow the transformation of the sky, from the solar eclipse to the fleeting glow of the Perseidas. If the eclipse is a rare phenomenon, whose observation is always a special opportunity, the Perseidas represent one of the most emblematic astronomical events of the year, providing, in the best conditions, dozens of meteors per hour,” the promoters noted.
Registrations, in limited number, are available on the ‘BookinXisto’ platform and participation has an associated cost of 15 euros per adult. Children between the ages of six and 12 pay half of that amount, being the free initiative for children up to six years.
“The organization recommends the use of comfortable clothing and footwear, clothing for the night period and lantern with red light”, necessary not to harm the vision of the night sky.
