A short film “combines the fictional and documentary treatment from the photographic archive and real images and the oral testimony of women of Trás-os-Montes, Beiras, Alto and Baixo Minho” who, in the 1940s to 1970s, went to work for Porto as created to serve, according to the presentation of the work.
The jury of Shortcutz Ovar, composed by singer Laura Rui, director Leandro Ribeiro and actress and director Ágata de Pinho, considered that “the film rescues memories of the girls forced to exchange their childhood for work”, “recorded in the history of a country that for too long preferred to forget them”.
The jury’s special award was for “Atom & Void”, by Gonçalo Almeida, and “A mother goes to the beach”, by Pedro Hasrouny, received the award for best first work.
In the animation category, “T-Zero”, by Vicente Niró, had the award for best short film, with an honorable mention attributed to “Tomorrow No Dão Rain” by Maria Trigo Teixeira.
The documentary “Maria, Maria”, about pianist Maria João Pires, the first work of Benjamin Quadros and Costa, received the award from the public.
The international network Shortcutz aims to support the new generation of filmmakers by displaying their works and regular contact with the public. In Portugal, Shortcutz Ovar has been held since 2017, focusing on the dissemination of Portuguese production.
