O Government of Buenos Aires reported that Flávio Bolsonaro left Argentina today to Ecuador three days after being defeated in the second round of the presidential election of neighbor Brazil.
The conservative senator crossed with the family the land border with Argentina, in the province of Misiones (northeast), “munido de documentos de travípios day by day, without any legal impediment,” said the Argentine National Directorate of Migration.
Flávio Bolsonaro crossed at 22:50 on Tuesday (01:50 today in Lisbon) the border post of the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, which links the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu to the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazú, accompanied by the woman and the two daughters.
Forty minutes later, Flávio Bolsonaro embarked on a “private flight chartered by Baires Fly S.A. to the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador,” added the same source in a press release published on social network X.
The aircraft took off shortly after Puerto Iguazú, confirmed FlightRadar's specialized portal.
Hours earlier, the Argentine Ministry of Security had denied that the son of the former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) had entered the country.
Flávio Bolsonaro's escape occurred one day after being subpoenaed by the Federal Police, by order of the judge of the Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes, to deliver all passports he owns within 24 hours, and to have been forbidden to leave Brazil.
Moraes' decision is part of a lawsuit in which Flavio and a friend, attorney Willer Tomaz, are investigated for corruption, money laundering and tax evasion, in an alleged scheme that would involve Tomaz companies and a betting platform.
The senator of the Brazilian extreme right is still the subject of an investigation by the Supreme Court on the financing of the film “Dark Horse”, a cinebiography of the father, who is arrested for unsuccessful attempt to coup.
On Monday, the day before leaving the country, Flávio Bolsonaro published a video on social networks where he assured that he would never leave Brazil, and that he would deliver the passports to the police authorities, including a diplomatic passport and one of Italian citizens.
On Tuesday, a high official of the U.S. State Department stated, on condition of anonymity, that Flávio Bolsonaro and the family will receive visas to the United States, information that the Brazilian media had already confirmed.
“The State Department will issue visas to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family and allow them to enter the United States,” said the responsible, quoted by the Associated Press news agency.
American President Donald Trump, who gave express support to Flávio Bolsonaro in the presidential race, was also questioned and assured that he would grant visas to the Brazilian senator and his family.
“Well, I would approve. I think they're good people. The election was very strange, and I thought it was terrible. She's been getting bad reviews. See what happened to their market,” Trump told journalists.
The possibility of Flávio leaving Brazil if he lost the elections had already been announced by his brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, currently a fugitive from Brazilian Justice, and residing in the United States since 2025.
