Millie, a cat in brown tones, recently completed 31 years of life.
The tutor, Leslie Greenough, spoke to the news agency SWNS and revealed the one who considers to be the secret of the longevity of the patudo: have drunk only mineral water over the past 10 years, besides many “petiscos” and “carinhos on the couch”.
“ I am very proud that she has reached the age of 31”, noted Leslie, from 71. “She’s a real warrior,” she added, noting that her partner Paula adopted Millie in 1995, when the cat was only three months old
The peculiar habit of drinking bottled water began when they were doing housework near the Greenhough estate. “She only drinks Buxton water and has a daily diet of salmon, shrimp, chicken and tuna,” she noted.
The tutor lives in Manchester, England, where natural mineral water Buxton is a famous brand. It comes from the spring of St. Ann in the city of Buxton in Derbyshire, England.
“Millie is about 146 years old – in human years. I guess that says it all. Imagine being 146 years old, I can’t,” Greenhough told the news agency.” “She has developed a cautious attitude; she is very shy. I think it helped her live longer.”.
The tutor noted that his goal is for Millie to be recognized as the oldest cat in the world, yet he has no proof of her age. Still, you haven't given up putting her in Guinness Records.
Three tips to keep your cat hydrated
Speaking of Millie, we recall the recommendations of Royal Canin veterinary doctor Gemma Baciero on how to keep your cat hydrated.
1- Keep the water always fresh
Very likely, with high temperatures, the interior of the house will also be affected. So it is important to change the cat’s water more than once a day to ensure that the animal always has fresh water, something much more attractive than if it is warm.
2- Opt for mixed feeding
Mixed feeding offers multiple benefits to the cat. While dry foods have very specific nutritional properties and can, for example, help maintain dental hygiene, moist foods can help increase water intake, as they usually contain 70% to 80% water. In this way, moist foods will provide an additional contribution to help keep you hydrated properly. In addition, the aroma can be much more tempting for a demanding cat.
3- Use water fountains
Water fountains are a very attractive alternative for some cats. The flow of water will certainly draw your attention and will be a form of attraction, encouraging them to drink more regularly.
