O festival returns this year to the Hipódromo Manuel Pompolo and the Marechal Carmona Park for eight nights, one more than in the previous edition, and will have the enclosure increased, with the creation of a new feeding area in the Marechal Carmona Park, and a new entrance, next to the Cascais Marina.
Each night of the Ageas CoolJazz includes four performances, divided by three stages, starting with the Cascais Jazz Sessions, following with a first part and the head of the poster, and ending with DJ performances in the ‘late nights’.
Gilberto Gil, today’s highlight, will be at the festival “for a concert to celebrate a universal legacy”, according to the organization.
At the concert, the musician, 83 years old and with a career of more than six decades, will be accompanied by the children Bem and José and the grandchildren João and Flor.
The first part of Gilberto Gil's concert will be held by Maria Luiza Jobim. Today they also perform at the Marta Garrett festival, in Jazz Sessions, and Petrolati, in Late Nights.
On July 14, David Byrne, founder of Talking Heads, will present the album “Who is the sky”, edited in September.
The alignment of the show will include, in addition to new themes, “classics of your solo career and the Talking Heads”. The musician thus returns to the festival where he had performed in 2018, “for a concert guided by the conductor of musical theatricality”.
The same day they also play Bia Maria (in the first part), Bardino (Jazz Sessions) and João Gomes (Late Nights).
Loyle Carner is the poster head of July 15th, which also includes performances by Ana Lua Caiano (first part), Marta Rodrigues (Jazz Sessions) and Mei Glez (Late Nights).
The Jamiroquai, a band led by Jason ‘Jay’ Kay, created in the 1990s, are the highlight of July 18.
“ With more than 30 years of history and numerous hits, the band brings to the festival its unmistakable musical identity. With Stevie Wonder as inspiration, the Jamiroquai explored jazz in electronic music, funk, soul and disc. The result is a career full of successes that invaded the dance floor for decades, with themes such as ‘Virtual Insanity’, ‘Cosmic Girl’, ‘Little L’ or ‘Seven Days In Sunny June’,” said promoter Live Experiences.
On a day when the stock is sold out, Moulinex (first part), Maria Carvalho and Bruno Ponte (Jazz Sessions) and Paulo Fernandes (Late Nights) also operate.
Diana Krall returns to Cool Jazz on July 22, when Gisela Mabel (first part), Nuno Tavares Quartet (Jazz Sessions) and Sofia Morais (Late Nights) also perform.
The day that has the Franz Ferdinand as head of the poster, July 25, also has Bombazine (first part), The Brothers (Jazz Sessions) and the Three Hand in Anca, Patricia Barnabas, Raquel Castro and Isabel Nogueira (Late Nights).
On July 29, the Scissor Sisters, Saint Caboclo (first part), Terra Terra (Jazz Sessions) and Manel Moreira (Late Nights) are on stage.
This year's edition of the festival ends on July 31, on a night with Chet Faker as head of the poster, Luís Severo in the first part, Miguel Marôco in Jazz Sessions and Nicolle Velcro in Late Nights.
This year, CoolJazz will for the first time perform in Portuguese Sign Language at some concerts: Gilberto Gil, David Byrne, Franz Ferdinand and Scissor Sisters.
In these days, vibration vests will also be available, “resources specially designed for the deaf community”.
The organization recalls that these two measures “along with the already announced option of free of charge of the Companion Ticket, addressed to people with a disability level equal to or greater than 60%, upon presentation of the Medical Incapacity Certificate (AMIM)”.
The CoolJazz festival also has a free entry schedule, the Lazy Sundays Cascais, which take place on Sundays at Marechal Carmona Park, always at 5pm.
This year, the DJs ‘set’ are in charge of Joana Barrios, on 12 July, of the duo Small Claims of Freedom (Mariana Lobo Vaz and Rita Poças), on 19 July, and the trio that conducts the podcast Lei da Paridade, Maria Castello Branco, Adriana Cardoso and Leonor Rosas, on 26 July.
