O co-founder of Google DeepMind Demis Hassabis will now take over as president of the company and chief scientist at Alphabet, a position so far occupied by Jeff Dean.
DeepMind's operational leadership, which was in Hassabis's hands, now passes to Koray Kavukcuoglu, the technology director of this division.
Kavukcuoglu will also assume the position of senior vice president, being tasked with overseeing the development of Gemini models and advanced AI research.
In turn, scientist Jeff Dean will leave Google and will create, along with Sanjay Ghemawat, an independent company, with the aim of accelerating advances in science and engineering.
In a message sent to the workers, Google’s executive president and its parent company, Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, said that these changes aim to accelerate Google’s work in AI and “maintain focus on the technological vanguard of the industry.”.
After the announcement, Alphabet's shares dropped about 4% on Wall Street's stock exchange.
