“ ANDwe are ready to continue the campaign, to continue to attack Hezbollah, including elsewhere,” Israel’s Defense Minister Katz said in a statement.

On Thursday night, the Israeli Army blew up underground facilities built by Hezbollah (God's Party) under the mountain of Ali Taher, in the Lebanese region of Nabatiyeh.

The explosion was so powerful that the United States Geological Service (USGS), a world reference for earthquake detection, experienced a magnitude 4.1 tremor — the equivalent of a small earthquake.

The films released by the Israeli authorities showed a flare coming out of the ground in the middle of a huge bang.

There Taher is in southern Lebanon, in a region occupied by the Israeli Army, who claimed to want to establish a “security zone” to prevent Hezbollah’s attacks on localities in northern Israel.

After the tunnels were destroyed on Thursday, a solid security zone was established, Katz added.

The region that was attacked also allows the Israeli Army to “maintain control and threaten Hezbollah in depth” in Lebanese territory, the Israeli minister stressed.

The Israeli Army had announced last week the taking of Ali Taher in the northern area of the Litani River and located on the edge of the area occupied by Israel in southern Lebanon.

Israel stated that Hezbollah had dug tunnels in the sector allowing it to launch drones and missiles against Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon as well as against northern Israel.

On Thursday night, the Israeli Army reported having mapped about five kilometres of tunnels and roads built in the mountainous region.

On the eve of the parliamentary elections in Israel, the takeover of Ali Taher is presented as a strategic victory by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into the regional war in March in solidarity with Iran, but violence declined in intensity after the understanding between Iran and the United States in June.

During the negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, the United States — mediators of the talks — proposed that the Lebanese Army take control of Ali Taher, but Hezbollah refused, according to France-Presse (AFP) a source close to the negotiators.
