A Judicial Police (JP) of the Chinese region of Macao said that he met with the Portuguese counterpart to talk about cooperation in combating terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering and cybercrime.
According to a statement, Macau’s director of the investigation police, Chong Meng, met on Friday with the leadership of Portuguese PJ, including the national director, Carlos Cabreiro.
At the meeting, the two forces “had in-depth discussions on various types of high-risk crimes”, reads the note released on Saturday, on the Chinese social network WeChat.
The focus was on “exploitation of ways of cooperation in the areas of counterterrorism, combating drug trafficking, money laundering and computer crime,” Macau PJ said.
In addition, the two police spoke about strengthening the exchange of information, the joint training of staff and “the actions to raise awareness and prevent crime to the Portuguese-speaking educational institutions of Macao”.
Portuguese is a two official languages of the semi-autonomous region – together with Chinese – that has at least two public schools with Portuguese as one of the vehicular languages.
In addition, the city counts the Portuguese School of Macao (EPM), which was established in 1998 and currently has 828 students, being managed by a foundation, resulting from the collaboration between the Portuguese State, the Orient Foundation and the Association Promoter of the Education of the Macaenses.
In another statement, released today by the Media Office, the Macau PJ said that the delegation led by Chong Meng was in the Portuguese capital to participate in an Interpol meeting.
According to PJ, more than 200 police leaders and experts from 60 countries and territories were in Lisbon for the annual meeting of the Interpol network dedicated to combating corruption in sport (IMFTF).
The note states that the meeting, between October 27 and 29, served to strengthen cooperation in areas such as the manipulation of sporting events, anti-doping investigations and the application of laws on artificial intelligence.
IMFTF has carried out several transnational operations, together with “with Europol and numerous countries”, to combat criminal groups dedicated to doping in sport, the Macau PJ said.
