One more! Mercadona opens today new supermarket in Portugal

A Mercadona opens this Tuesday, another store in national territory. The question is: supermarket in Sintra, which will be the 73rd Spanish brand in Portugal. 

“The Mercadona opens, on the next day 30 june, in Rua Rosa Maria Lobato de Faria, no20, in the municipality of Sintra, marking a reinforcement in the district of Lisbon ", announced the group, in a statement. 

In the same note, Mercadona reveals that “this new space has created around 64 new jobs, stable and of quality, with endless contracts since day one, thus contributing to the creation of local employment”.

It also adds that the “shop will have a sales area of about 1,900 m2, with wide corridors for a comfortable shopping experience and the usual sections: Charcuterie, Fish Shop, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Tall, Fruit and Vegetables and Ready to Eat”.

“The start of the year was marked by the opening of the store of Quinta do Lambert (Lisboa), followed by the shops of Viseu and Covilhã, the first in the district of Castelo Branco. In addition to these 3 shops, already open, until the end of the year, it is expected to arrive to 3 districts, Vila Real, Beja and Faro (Portimão and Faro), in addition to the openings in Amarante, Esposende, Maia, Moita and this, in Sintra ", recalls Mercadona. 

Yogurts, pasta, bread and not only: Mercadona lowers the price of 500 products

It should also be recalled that Mercadona has lowered the price to more than 500 products in Portugal since the beginning of the year, in an attempt to “absorb the increase in costs” and reduce the impact for customers in a context with various inflationary pressures. Yoghurt, pasta, bread and hygiene products are some of the products covered by the reduction.  

Like what happened in Spain, also in Portugal Mercadona “reduced prices in about 500 references, since the beginning of 2026”, and “more than 200” occurred in April, gave the official source of the group of Spanish supermarkets to News to Minutes. 

“The measure arises as an effort by the company to absorb the increase in the costs of raw materials and to support the ‘Chiefs’ [clients] in the face of the current inflationary context and reinforces the position of the company in a maximum quality set, at the best possible price, while ensuring the sustainability of the food chain,” explained the same source. 

This measure “results from continuous work of optimization of internal processes, allowing to identify efficiency gains that are translated into direct benefits to the final consumer”.

The same source reported that the price decrease, “that the customer can identify directly in the store through yellow labels, extends to a wide shopping basket that includes, for example, yogurts, pasta, bread, hygiene products, among others, with special incidence on everyday consumer products that make up the basis of the shopping cart of the Portuguese”.

Mercadona ensures that “it will continue to work to ensure that it remains a reliable option for the Portuguese” and promises “‘Always Low Prices’ based on efficiency and transparency”.
