Husband of Giulia Be and grandson nephew of Kennedy is wanted by Russia

Conor Kennedy, nephew-grandson of former President of the United States John Kennedy and husband of Brazilian singer Giulia Be, is part of the international list of wanted by Russia and his arrest was authorized by the country.

According to the Basmanny District Court in Moscow, the young man is accused of joining a group of mercenaries and fighting with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The defense appealed, but the responsible body maintained the decision of the district court. Kennedy can get seven to ten years in prison.

On social networks Conor Kennedy had shown that he went to Ukraine in October 2022 where he participated in fighting in the Kharkiv region as a member of the International Legion alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces. 

The young man said he knew that his participation in the war would eventually be discovered and decided to tell his truth, encouraging others to do the same. 

“ I know this story is going to be general knowledge so I want to give my version first, to make the best of it and encourage other people to act. Like many people, I was deeply moved by what I saw in Ukraine last year. I wanted to help. When I heard about the International Legion of Ukraine, I knew I would go and, the next day, I went to the embassy to enlist,” he said.

“ I told someone from here where I was and told someone there my real name. I didn't want my family or my friends to worry and I didn't want to be treated differently there. When I arrived, I had no previous military experience and I wasn't a good shot, but I was able to carry heavy things and learn quickly. I was willing to die there, too. So they agreed to send me to the northeast front,” he added.

Conor explained that he did not stay long in Ukraine and that, despite everything, he enjoyed being a soldier.

“ My time in Ukraine was not long, but I saw a lot and felt a lot. I liked being a soldier more than I expected. It's scary. But life is simple, and the rewards for finding courage and doing good are enormous. My friends there know why I needed to come home. [...] I know I was lucky to get back, but I would also take again all the risks we took”, he concluded. 

Who's Conor Kennedy?

Conor Kennedy is 32 years old and is nephew-grandson of former President John Kennedy and grandson of former American Attorney General Robert Kennedy. The young man is the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services of the United States.

Conor is a lawyer and married this year Brazilian singer Giulia Be, author of hits such as “Mina Solta” and “If this life was a movie”.
