Co the arrival of summer and the heat wave that has affected Europe over the past few days, warnings about the risks of skin cancer have increased.

On the subject, doctor Asiya Maula revealed to Mirror Online that one of the most warning symptoms for experts is not (apena) the signs on the skin, contrary to what one might think.

According to the newspaper, health professionals say that certain types of cancer can manifest through “pink spots, areas of skin scaling or even a harmless wound that never heals”.

Maula stresses that these less common symptoms are ignored because they do not correspond to the image that most people have of skin cancer.

“ When people think of skin cancer, they usually imagine a dark sign changing shape and color. Although this may be a warning signal, it is not the only one ", defends.

“ Some types of skin cancer may manifest through a pink or red spot, a bright bulge, a scaly area on the skin or even a small wound that repeatedly forms crusts, but never heals completely.”.

“ The injuries that worry me most are usually those that people ignore for months, because they do not seem worrying ", highlighted.

“ An area of skin that remains red, itchy, scavenge or slightly sore for weeks deserves attention, especially if it is not improving”, he stresses.

Skin cancer: Symptoms that people tend to ignore

– Wound that doesn't heal in four weeks;
– Spot on pink, red or scaly skin;
– Bright bulge;
– Area with permanent crust;
– a sign that changes size, shape or color;
– Any sign that keeps growing.

“The key is persistence. The skin has a natural ability to heal very well. If something persists for weeks or months and does not improve, it is worth consulting a doctor”, says Maula.

“ Most skin changes end up being harmless, but skin cancer is one of those where early diagnosis can make a difference. I would rather have someone come to an appointment to analyze a harmless stain than postpone going to the doctor because they do not think it is cancer,” he says.

“ The important message is not just focusing on signals. If a stain, bulge, wound or mark on your skin is changing or not healing, it deserves attention”.
