O minister of Agriculture, José Manuel Fernandes, today announced a new €35 million support line, simplified and fast, to encourage young people to invest in the agricultural sector.
“ Now we open another competition with the aim of having 200 new farmers, worth 35 million euros”, said the minister today at the 1st Meeting of Young Farmers, which is taking place in Macedo de Cavaleiros.
José Manuel Fernandes said that this line will have “unit costs and simplified costs” and that there will be “debureaucratisation”, particularly in the licensing of water resources and in the transmission of farms, and therefore “much faster” the acquisition of support.
“ Anyone who now submits the application, with regard to the licensing of water resources, will not be at the time of submission of the application that has to have this licence, nor makes sense, [...] but will be presented at the time that there is the contract after the approved application [...] Another simplification has to do with the possibility of a transmission of an exploitation in a simpler and faster way without penalising the application”, he explained.
The minister also mentioned another support, aimed at the renewal of generations in agriculture, with 330 million euros available to support 2,000 young people, advancing that “more than 1,500” projects are already under way.
“Our average age in agriculture is about 64 years. We have to work for food security, food on the plate, this implies generational renewal, which also brings knowledge, modernity, the possibility of using drones, robotics, this agriculture and precision agriculture with greater productivity is also essential ", said.
