Killed by his comrades in similar murders. What do you know?

Dwomen were killed by their companions on Tuesday, October 13, with about an hour difference. One case happened in Caldas da Rainha, another in Elvas and both are under investigation by the Judicial Police (PJ). What do you know?

Around 12 a.m., the emergency service (112) received a call that alerted to a “suspecting situation” in a car that was parked on the side of National Road 360, a section that connects the Caldas da Rainha and the Foz do Arelho.

According to News Newspaper (JN), when the Public Security Police (PSP) arrived at the scene found a couple, which will be of indostanic origin, inside the car. 

The woman, about 30 years old, had gunshot wounds, the death ended up being declared on the spot. On the other hand, the 25-year-old boyfriend was also found unconscious inside the car and was later transported to the Caldas da Rainha Hospital with minor injuries. 

PJ confirmed that “the case is under investigation”, however, refused to advance if suspicions of murder are confirmed. According to JN, authorities believe it was the man who shot, killed his wife, and then tried to end his life. 

Couple found dead in Elvas

About an hour later, at 1:00, a couple were found dead at home in Barbacena, in the county of Elvas. 

Also the JN advances that neighbors heard screams coming from inside the housing, having alerted the Republican National Guard (GNR). Already at the scene, the Guard military came across the bodies of the couple.

The 50 - year - old woman was found with several gunshot wounds while the 53 - year - old man was found hanged in another room of the house. 

Source of the Judicial Police indicated that this was a case “in the context of domestic violence” and that “it would have been murder, followed by suicide”.

The same media reports that the woman was a teacher and that the man was a real estate agent and, according to Radio ElvasThey had two children: a nine-year-old boy and a 22-year-old girl. The couple would be going through a rough divorce.

Between April and June domestic violence rose 13.3%

Security forces increased by 13.3% in domestic violence participations between April and June this year, with more than 7,800 cases, and seven people were killed in the same period.

According to the latest data from the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (IGC) for the second quarter of 2026, the Public Security Police (PSP) and the Republican National Guard (GNR) recorded 7,871 occurrences of domestic violence in April, May and June.

This figure thus represents an increase of 13.3% compared to the first quarter of 2016, when 6,949 cases were registered, and an increase of almost 2% compared to the homologous period, considering that between April and June 2025 there were 7,718 occurrences due to domestic violence.

According to the IGC data, in this second quarter of 2026 seven people were murdered in the context of domestic violence, among five women, a child and a man, which means more one dead person than between January and March.

In the total of six months already accounted for, the statistics show 13 people killed, minus two in the same period of 2025.
