Athe end of eight days, Manchester City finally met, at the beginning of Saturday afternoon, the first defeat in the new sports season of 2026/27 of the Premier League, the ‘tombar’ before Aston Villa, on the trip to Villa Park, by 2-1, at a meeting where lived a first part of authentic ‘nightmare’.
The film began to draw at the sixth minute, when Marc Guéhi lost the ball to John McGinn in a forbidden zone, having this leftover for Nicolas Jackson, who ‘bailed’ on Elliot Anderson before taking a strong shot, but to the figure of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was still unable to keep the goal inviolate.
Clearly dissatisfied with what he was seeing, the Italian coach Enzo Maresca (who bet on the titularity of the Portuguese international Reuben Dias and kept Matheus Nunes off the list of summons due to injury) moved, to the interval, and soon to double, launching Rico Lewis and Phil Foden to the place of the already ‘yellows’ Marc Guéhi and Rayan Cherki.
The answer was immediate, and just seven minutes after the return of the locker rooms, the Citizens restored equality in the marker, through the inevitable Erling Haaland, who went to the heights to give the best possible sequence to a cross with weight and measurement by Iliman Ndiaye, from the left side of the attack.
The visitors' party would eventually last mere... eight minutes, as long as it takes Gianluigi Donnarumma again commits to Nicolas Jackson, letting slip under the body a shallow shot to the entrance of the large area, which ended up sealing, once and for all, the final result.
The results (and accounts) of the Premier League
This Aston Villa-Manchester City was just the second meeting of the eighth Premier League journey. This, after, on the eve, Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest had initialled a tie to a ball on Portman Road to the ‘balleia’ of the goals signed by Julio Enciso and Neco Williams respectively.
This Saturday, at 3 p.m. (Hour of Continental Portugal) there will be Arsenal-Everton and Coventry City Fulham, before the long-awaited London derby that will put, face to face, Chelsea and Tottenham, in Stamford Bridge, which will be closed at 5:30 p.m. However, there is more to be taken into account.
On Sunday, the Crystal Palace-Newcastle, Hull City-Brentford, Liverpool-Brighton and Manchester United-Bournemouth will be held at 2 p.m., with the prospect of several Portuguese footballers taking action. The ‘pano’ will fall on this round at 4:30 p.m. with Sunderland-Leeds United.
After the accounts, despite this outburst, Manchester City remains in the lead of the main English football league, with 21 points won in 24 possible, three more than the second ranked and champion in title, Arsenal, which may, however, ‘catch it’, if you win the match ahead.
Aston Villa, for its part, reaches 11 points and is provisionally the sixth position, the last one before the clearance zone for European competitions.
