The pace of car development is growing faster and faster, much because of the acceleration imposed by chinese manufacturers and their short cycles.

The most traditional manufacturers seek to adapt, as is the case with Renault, which took less than two years to put Twingo E-Tech on the market. Or Ford, who last year introduced the new electric car platform in the United States to introduce the first model already in 2027.

In Nissan, there is awareness that the pace of new products must be accelerated. And it is future existence itself that is at stake. Kazuyuki Yamaguchi, vice president of product development. I told Automotive News according to Engine 1. with: “We need to introduce attractive products into the market faster. Otherwise, we won't survive. The message is very simple”.

The leader knows that there is no longer “the luxury of time”, a process of efficient development is necessary.

The Japanese manufacturer already has measures in place: according to Nikkei Asia reported in June, the new Skyline should be completed within 26 months (just over two years), not 55 as the previous version. The executive director, Ivan Espinosa, pointed out at the time that artificial intelligence and digital tools are vital to achieving this speed of development.

And he stressed that China's builders set the new standards, including as regards development time.

Nissan wants to develop cars in half the time (and China is example)

Nissan looks at China's builders in an attempt to significantly shorten the development time of their vehicles to about two years – an essential aspect to be competitive in the current market.
