Set people, including a child, were injured, on Wednesday afternoon, following the loss of a taxi, followed by a hit-and-run, on a treadmill on Avenida Fernão Magalhães, in Porto. What do you know so far?
The alert was issued at 5:54 p.m., after a taxi driver coming down Brás Cubas Street, across the avenue, failed to stop the car, according to the News Journal (JN).
A woman about 40 years old and her two children, a 15-year-old teenager and an eight-year-old girl, all of Colombian nationality, were hit by the vehicle while crossing the treadmill.
The victims were assisted on site and taken to the Hospital de São João, Porto. The child, who was considered to be seriously injured, suffered head trauma and said to have back and lower limb pain, according to the source of the INEM to the JN.
The taxi ended up walking, and the driver and the two passengers who followed the car were also injured. However, there was no need for hospital care.
A passerby who provided assistance to the victims was likewise classified as a slight injured person, after feeling ill, according to the Port Fire Shoppers Regiment. By 6:30 p.m., the track was partially cut to traffic.
An official of the Queen pastry shop, who was inside the establishment when the incident occurred, told that medium that “only screams were heard outside”.
“ It was lucky the car didn't hit the terrace. Since November 2025, we have withdrawn the position of the terrace, otherwise it would have been different. There were two customers abroad, but they had no problems,” said Guilherme Sousa.
Rui Meira, who was on the tour, reported that these were moments of “great agitation”. “There were many people on the avenue. It was like a movie. The girl was hit by the car, the lady hit her head on the ground and the young man was designed by the car ", described.
Despite not having suffered injuries, Nathan Dantas’ scooter, which was next to the tour, was “useless”, so he will “participate in the accident to the insurer” of the taxi driver.
In addition to the Sapadores, elements of the Volunteer Firefighters of Porto and various means of the INEM were mobilized. The Public Security Police (PSP) was also on site.
