ANDlast april, it was announced that more than 61 thousand cultural goods from museums, monuments, palaces and digitized portuguese archaeological sites were available online to be seen by anyone anywhere in the world.
The digitalised cultural goods, as well as virtual visits to buildings, between museums, monasteries, archaeological sites could since then be accessed through two ‘sites’: https://archiva.patrimoniocultural.gov.pt/ or https://makingof360.patrimoniocultural.gov.pt/.
However, it was already known that these contents would later be made available in an online portal, which was being finalised.
In a statement released today, the Ministry of Culture indicates that this portal Cultural Heritage 360® (360.patrimoniocultural.gov.pt) is available, gathering immersive virtual visits, multimedia content and more than 60,000 mobile cultural goods scanned using technologies such as high resolution photography, photogrammetry, laser ‘scanning’ and 3D modeling.
“It is a project that places the knowledge, history and identity of our country within reach of all, regardless of its geographical location, while reinforcing the preservation and transmission of this legacy to future generations,” said Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, quoted in the statement.
The digitalized cultural goods were previously chosen by the directors of museums, monuments, palaces and archaeological sites and among them are goods classified as “national treasure” and goods of various scales, typologies and materials, such as a small piece of goldsmithry, a garment, a painting, a photograph or a sculpture of several tons.
The portal allows searching by theme, location or historical period.
According to the Ministry of Culture, it has 232 national treasures and offers 67 virtual visits to 90 heritage spaces in 45 municipalities of 17 districts, including the Monastery of the Battle, the Sé de Évora, the National Palace of Mafra, the Fortress of Sagres or the National Museum of Music.
The “Cultural Heritage 360” project was funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), with around EUR 14.4 million.
