The Porto Chamber announced the creation of a network of external automatic defibrillators (ADE) and a training action in resuscitation and basic life support, with more than 530 subscribers and participation of non-registered citizens.

A Câmara do Porto announced today the creation of a network of external automatic defibrillators (ADE), within a 12-hour action to form the population in practices of resuscitation and basic life support.
Among the participants in today's action in front of the House of Porto, in Praça General Humberto Delgado, who organized Porto Reanimá with the Red Cross and INEM, was the president, Pedro Duarte (PSD/CDS-PP/IL), who experienced in a doll mouth-to-mouth breathing and heart massage, besides listening to advice on how to act before a cardiorespiratory arrest.
The mayor also saw the DAE installed in his own Avenida dos Aliados before announcing to journalists the creation of this network that will have the first equipment installed in the areas “of greater population concentration”.
“ It can make a difference between life and death under many circumstances. In Portugal, only 26% of the cardiorespiratory arrests that are witnessed are subject to resuscitation until the arrival of the professional emergency. The European average is 58%", he said.
By associating these numbers with the formation of the general population and the availability of these equipment in the public space, Porto wants to take this “good step” and start to form any stakeholders, free of charge, in actions such as today, but starting with the ‘neighbours’ of the DAE that are being installed.
“It is a very intense problem in the life of cities. ... Today, we are here for 12 consecutive hours giving training, we have more than 530 subscribers, and there have already been many people who are not registered who have participated in this fast course. The idea is to massify this type of answers ", assured the mayor.
