Os pensioners residing in Belgium, Canada, Cape Verde, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Switzerland must carry out the mandatory Proof of Life by Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to ensure continuity of payment of the pension, reminded the Social Security Institute (ISS).

What happens if the deadline is not met?
Social Security explains that “if the Proof of Life is not carried out within the deadline, the payment of the pension will be suspended from november 2026“.
“ O payment will resume after delivery and validation of the Proof of Life, being paid the amounts that were delayed“it can still be read in the published note.
How to Perform the Proof of Life?
Social Security explains that the fastest way is to test digital life by biometrics, “no need for prior authentication, simply indicating the NISS and date of birth”, according to the information provided in the August Social Security newsletter.
It can be done:
- On the Social Security Portal: Menu I will retire or retire > Proof of Life> What can I do online> Consult and register Proof of Life;
- In the Social Security App: Menu> Proof of Life.
“Don’t leave it for the last hour. The timely completion of the Proof of Life prevents the suspension of payment of the pension. Pensioners covered by this obligation must carry out the procedure as soon as possible, within the prescribed period”, recommends the Social Security Institute.
What is the Proof of Life and to whom is it intended?
It should be stressed that Proof of Life is a “procedure that must be carried out annually by pensioners in order to maintain the right to their pension”.
Now, “if you do not carry out the Proof of Life, the payment of the pension will be suspended”, and “can be done digitally, documentaryly or in person”.
In 2026, refer to “the pensioners registered in Belgium, Cape Verde, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Canada, aged 66 years and over 9 months”.
Then, “in 2027, to all pensioners residing abroad, regardless of age or country of
