O PS/Açores lamented today that the project to create 200 new vacancies in day care and ATL at the Bernardo Manuel da Silveira Estrela Support Center in Ribeira Grande, wait for approval and funding by the Regional Government.

Cited in a press release, socialist deputy Carlos Silva considers it “unacceptable that the Regional Government does not have time to meet with the institutions, which, in addition to providing important services to the community, also seek to present solutions and projects that respond to the huge waiting lists in daycare and ATL”.

For Carlos Silva, “the lack of vacancies in day care and ATL on the island of São Miguel, compromises the reconciliation between family and professional life and impairs the development of children.”

The Socialist recalled that in 2025, on the proposal of the PS/Açores, the project to expand the day care center and ATL of the Support Center Bernardo Manuel da Silveira Estrela, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, was inscribed in the Annual Regional Plan, with an allocation of 150 thousand euros, but that had no financial execution.

The parliamentary also regretted that the institution asked for “successive meetings” with the Regional Secretary of Health and Social Security to present and analyze the expansion project, “without having obtained any response”.

The parliamentary group of the PS/Azores has, however, advanced with a request at the Legislative Assembly of the Azores to determine why the investment of 150 thousand euros registered in the Plan and Budget of 2025 had no financial execution.

It is also intended to ascertain why the Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security did not respond to the institution's requests for meetings.

MEPs also want to know whether the Regional Government will open a line to apply for this investment in the Azores 2030 programme.
