O PS today argued that the housing legislation that it approved when it was in the government was “highly biased” by changes made by the current executive, accusing the government of lying when it blames the socialists for the current crisis.
“Today, Minister Leitão Amaro (...) came to say that the crisis that is going on is the fault of a legislative package of the times of the PS government, and I am obliged to restore the truth: the crisis that we are experiencing today has been exacerbated by the changes made by this government to the changes made in the times of the PS government,” said Vice-President of the Socialist bench Luís Testa, in statements to journalists in Parliament.
According to the congressman, it is not because a phrase is often repeated that will become true. He has ensured that socialists will be available to restore the facts “for every lie” that the government says about housing.
“ What is in force is not the law of the time of the PS, it is the law of the time of the PS highly biased by all the changes made by this Government, and all of them caused an increase in the cost of housing ", opposed.
Luís Testa also said that the PSD, “at the same time it says it is available for a consensus, makes it a more difficult daily.”.
“The sectarian stance, ideologically biased and very obstinate, that the market is able to solve all problems regarding housing, is making dialogue practically impossible,” he said.
The socialist also took advantage of this press conference to condemn the statements of the President of the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU), Benjamin Pereira, who said today not to know “if the current society is available for the level of sacrifice” of the previous, recalling that his own grandparents emigrated “to have a home”.
“ We are very surprised that today the President of IHRU will tell the media that young people lack a spirit of sacrifice. This is intolerable for a public leader to express himself in relation to people, young people, who have nothing in front of them but sacrifice”, he criticized.
Luís Testa said that despite being able to “sensitize a lot with the family’s life history” of the president of the IHRU, the concern of the PS is with “the lives of the Portuguese and especially of young people”.
“ The sacrifice that this age group has ahead in its life is not compatible with jockey statements by a leader of public administration ", lamented.
The Minister of the Presidency has today argued that the law that needs to be repealed in the area of rental is that of the PS, making it available to discuss proposals from other parties in the specialty process.
At the press conference after the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, António Leitão Amaro was asked whether he admitted to withdraw the proposal of the new urban lease regime, which is under discussion in the specialty in parliament, as already challenged the secretary-general of the PS, José Luís Carneiro.
“ It makes a lot of sense to go back, to revoke, to change the law of the lease that causes this situation, which is the law of the lease approved by the ‘geringonça’”, opposed the minister, saying that it caused the current constraints in the market.
