Ousers of the National Health Service (SNS) can opt for hospitalization in private, single or semi-private room, provided that the institution or service provider has this type of additional service, according to a ordinance published in Diário da República, which updates the values of these options. How much is it, anyway?
“The option for private room it implies payment of the following increases on the values fixed for admission, to be borne by the user himself or by a third party legally or contractually liable: Private room diary – 200 €(b) Semi-private room daily – 100 €“you can read in document.
Theprice of companion's daily in private room, including accommodation and breakfast, is 75 €“.
These new prices come into force on the “first day of the month following its publication”. As the ordinance was published in June, it means that these new prices start already on Wednesday, July 1.
According to the Mail of the Morning, which advanced with the news, the 200 euros that come to be charged by the private room represent a increase of eur 50 given the value that is currently practiced.
There are over 3,500 people admitted to hospitals after discharge from the clinic
The number of people who remain hospitalized in hospitals after being discharged from the clinic exceeded 3,500 by the end of May, announced the SNS Executive Director, recognizing the impossibility of solving the problem in the short term.
Listening to the parliamentary health committee, at the request of the ER bench, Álvaro Almeida said that, at the end of last month, the local health units (ULS) registered 3,536 situations of high delay, of which 1,339 for lack of social or family response.
Recently, the Health Minister said that, at the end of April, 3,493 patients with discharge from the clinic remained hospitalized in hospitals, a number that was updated today by the SNS Executive Director to the 3,536, i.e., another 43 within a month.
Álvaro Almeida pointed out that this number is the result of the survey that the Executive Board of the SNS (DE-SNS) did in all public hospitals, with the “more broad definition of discharge delay”, including all cases that, from a clinical point of view, could have already left the hospital.
In this survey there are still 1,358 people waiting to be admitted to the national network of integrated continued care, but also 513 users who are awaiting a resolution under the legal regime of greatest follow-up, among other situations.
He also pointed out that “the numbers should not be compared” when starting from different bases, in a reference to the last barometer of the Portuguese Association of Hospital Administrators, which pointed to 2,800 inadequate hospitalizations in hospitals.
“ The social hospitalizations, of course, that we will not solve them this year, but we are gradually solving them”, assured Alvaro Almeida to the Members, pointing out that since the beginning of the year, 422 people have been placed under a 2023 ordinance providing social responses to these cases, which represents a 27% increase over the same period of 2025.
“There is an increase in response capacity that has been observed since the publication of the ordinance that will help minimize the problem,” said the head of the SNS Executive Board.
