O In June, the United Kingdom became the last country to announce the ban on social networking sites such as Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. The measure will enter into force in early 2027.
“ These measures are crucial to help young people get the sleep they need, to focus on school and studies and to spend more quality time with family and friends,” said Digital’s minister Liz Kendall, quoted in a statement.
The measures announced also include controls on the use of artificial intelligence ‘chatbots’ (dialogue platforms), which require those under 18 to take regular breaks when using them.
Australia became in December the first country to ban access to social networks for children under 16 and Indonesia followed the example in March.
France and Canada are some of the other countries that have announced similar bans.
