“ Pfor 2026/27 a positive result of EUR 8.4 million. We do not regard this value as an end in itself, but as an essential condition for continuing to invest where it matters most: in the competitiveness of our teams, in the development of our modalities and in the Benfica's ability to fight for titles on all fronts ", said Rui Costa, in the opening of the second AG of the emblem "incarnate" of the day, in Pavilion No. 2 of the Luz Stadium in Lisbon.
After, in the morning, Benfica has held a first great meeting on Planning, Management and Sports Results, which aimed to clarify the members in relation to the last sporting season, the ‘incarnates’ hold a second, dedicated to the Budget and Investment Plan for 2026/27, in which will be voted the budget for the new season, which started with the intervention of Rui Costa, once again made available on the club's website.
“ It is this balance that allows us to look to the future with confidence, reinforcing the quality of our plants, investing in structuring projects and ensuring sustainability in the long term ", said the Benfiquist president.
Rui Costa highlighted some milestones achieved at the transatlantic time, highlighting the raising of 30,000 new members or the greatest assistance ever in a football game at the Luz Stadium in Lisbon, which represent in his understanding the “force of benfiquism”.
For this reason, the leader of the Benfiquist leadership addressed directly to the associates, requesting their trust and, consequently, their endorsement and vote in favour.
“ The document we present to you today is a budget of rigour, responsibility and ambition, designed to serve the designs of the club, protect its future and strengthen its ability to win. Therefore, I request the trust of the partners in the approval of this proposal ", ended, hopeful about their acceptance by Benfica partners.
The club budget for 2026/27 points to incomes of 70 ME and spending of 61.6 ME, values that allow to project a positive result of 8.4 ME.
The forecast represents an improvement compared to 3.91 ME registered in the implementation forecast of the season 2025/26 and also exceeds 7,65 ME registered in the financial year 2024/25.
Approved in March 2025, the new Benfica statutes introduced a mechanism for the automatic dismissal of the Board if the management report and accounts are rejected twice by the AG.
However, the statutes also provide that this mechanism only takes effect “from the second year of the year of the year” of each direction, so it cannot be applied to the team led by Rui Costa in the first accounts presented after the election of October 2025.
These great meetings take place, after, in June 2025, the members had failed the budget for 2025/26 with a significant majority of 73.80% of votes against, in an act in which they voted 1,056 partners and which preceded the October elections of that year, in which Rui Costa was eventually re-elected.
The document then presented by the Board led by Rui Costa provided for a positive result of 5.5 ME.
The reprobation represented a worsening of the internal challenge to the management of the ‘carnated’ president, in a year marked by the holding of elections at the club.
Also in 2024, Rui Costa, who has been leading the club since 2021, did not obtain the absolute majority required by Article 57 of the statutes at the time in force for the budget to be approved.
