O creator of games such as “Metal Gear Solid” and “Death Stranding”, Hideo Kojima, published on their social network page X where it revealed that “Physint” – originally announced as an exclusive PlayStation console project – is now an exclusive to the Xbox rival.
"Physint" was announced in 2024 as the next project by the acclaimed Japanese producer, with PlayStation repeating the support provided in the creation of Kojima Productions studio that led to the creation of "Death Stranding". However, Kojima says that mid-June it was notified that PlayStation intended to cancel the “Physint” project.
“ ‘Physint’ is an important project not only for me personally but also for Kojima Productions’, writes the japanese producer. “ Determined to keep the project going, we spent the last three months tirelessly searching for a new partner. While we were looking for advice and had negotiations with people from many areas, we found on Xbox a partner as we shared a common vision of the future and decided to collaborate with them once again.”.
Remember that Kojima Productions and Xbox already have a joint project in the form of “OD”, a game announced in 2022 exclusively for Microsoft consoles and that currently continues without any release date.
“Physint” is described as an action and espionage game and is viewed by many as a spiritual successor of “Metal Gear Solid”. Since this franchise gained popularity on PlayStation platforms with the release for the brand's original console in 1998, many believe that Sony's decision to split video games in abdicating "Physint" will be seen as a historic error of the Japanese company.
PlayStation has actually been the subject of a great variety of criticisms over recent times. The company has been harshly criticized for betting on the development of online games (with many of them have been canceled), lack of exclusive games on PlayStation 5, studio closure (like Bluepoint Games) and the decision to dropping games in physical format from january 2028.
As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project.
