According to a source close to the process cited by AFP, 680 clients were affected.
The Revolution did not confirm whether there are Portuguese among the clients whose data were exposed.
According to the Financial Times, the data leak concerns addresses, verification photographs, identification documents and information related to the activity associated with ‘bitcoins’.
The newspaper contacted the hackers who claim to be at the origin of the incident, who will have exchanged ‘e-mails’ with the bank for several months under this false identity.
Targets are customers holding significant volumes of cryptoactives, notably in Switzerland and France.
The UK Data Protection Authority (ICO) has confirmed that AFP has “received a complaint” and is “analyzing the information provided”.
Founded in 2015, Revolutionary was one of the pioneers in mobile financial services, with more than 80 million customers worldwide.
At first, it focused on conversion of coins and simplified money transfers to its users.
The rapid expansion of the company has raised criticism about its ability to comply with financial regulations, particularly as regards fraud and money laundering.
