A Russia has refused to prolong the ceasefire that is due to end tonight on the outskirts of Oleshky, a city in southern Ukraine occupied by the Russian army, according to a senior head of the Ukrainian Presidency.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs put forward “a proposal to prolong this ceasefire”, but “the Russians do not want it,” the same source told AFP, at a time when the truce should come to an end overnight.
The truce that allowed the evacuation of the residents of Olechky, Russia-occupied city in southern Ukraine, should end today — an exceptional but limited pause, while Kyiv and Moscow continue to carry out attacks.
This truce, which began on Tuesday morning, allowed the removal of inhabitants from the city, located on the front line in the Kherson region — an area with mined accesses, under crossfire of Russian and Ukrainian drones, and which has been facing serious shortages for months.
This is the longest ceasefire since the start of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which was launched in February 2022.
Neither Kyiv nor Moscow reported violations of the agreement, unlike other partial ceasefires, such as during the Orthodox Passover.
