A Cimpor launched the international brand Havelar by Cimpor, dedicated to 3D printing construction solutions, to make this technology economically viable, scalable and less carbon intensive, announced today the company.
In a statement, Cimpor explained that the new brand results from a strategic investment in Havelar and combines skills in the development of low carbon cement and concrete with digital construction technologies and industrial-scale projects.
The platform integrates materials development, laboratory and industrial validation, concrete production, construction systems design, 3D printer operation, logistics, work execution and quality control.
In Portugal, the residential enterprise of Mariadeira, in Póvoa de Varzim, is presented by the company as a demonstration of the industrial potential of this model, since the project includes 16 residential blocks and 32 fires developed using 3D printing.
According to Cimpor, it was the first time in Portugal that a 3D printed residential enterprise used concrete provided exclusively by lorries, integrating the production of the material and printing technology into existing infrastructures.
One of the priority areas of the new brand is the development of 3D-printable concrete with ultra-low carbon emissions, using materials such as calcined clay, granulated ground furnace slag, advanced binders and recycled materials.
The strategy also includes the recovery of construction and demolition waste through the recovery and reuse of materials in new products, in a circular economy approach that the company calls “Urban Mining”.
As mentioned in the statement, Berkan Fidan, the global technological leader and member of the Cimpor Executive Board, said that 3D construction can be an industrial platform to meet housing needs, resilient urban development, disaster reconstruction and decarbonisation.
The company intends to extend the application of this technology to different markets, including residential projects, social housing and support infrastructure.
In addition to Portugal, OYAK Çimento, a local brand of Cimpor Global in Turkey, is developing a 3D printed passive housing project in Hatay (southern Turkey).
In this sense, the international strategy of Havelar by Cimpor also covers potential projects and market development in Africa, the Middle East, the Americas and other European markets.
