Sand goes to the Algarve to see the Benagil Caves and you believe that you will have the sea as a soundtrack, don't think that this will be the music that will star in the list of boat trips. Each tour guide may have at least one CD of Beatles - we explained why.
Although only a few elements of the band have performed solo in Portugal, the phenomenon known as Beatlemania had a great expression in our country. And although it seems contradictory, because they have never acted here as a band, these artists have already revealed a connection with our country that goes through decades.
A confession, published on Paul McCartney’s official website, about the phenomenon “Yesterday” does not let him lie, Portugal served as inspiration to finish the song, in which he was already working:
“At the end of May 1965, he finally completed “Yesterday” that we all know and love today, during a long holiday car trip in Portugal.”
Still, this is not the musical success chosen for those who make the boat trips to the natural cavities of Benagil.
Those who leave the Marina of Albufeira towards the famous caves, on the way, will not only see mere rock formations. In addition to dolphins and coastal birds, nature hides a type of boat designed by force of the sea and, it is said that it served as inspiration for a Beatles song.
It is almost to reach the Valley of Engenhos, in Lagoa, that there is a unique coastal rocky formation, which rises in the ocean and is distinguished from the others. Here, nature steals the lead to the sound tranquility of the sea and relates success “Yellow Submarine” Beatles with the landscape.

On a 2025 tour, a guide told us that Paul McCartney is the most frequent member of the band in Portugal, and the Algarve region is never forgotten, including that it always takes a tour of the Benagil Caves.
Some say it is a legend, whose local guides continue to defend with much belonging, however, one of them, to prove the truth of the story, shows even tourists a photograph that has with Paul McCartney in the boat where he tours the caves.
Is it artificial intelligence that's feeding the legend or is it a realistic memory? Although the evidence of this story is inconclusive, we know that there are facts as far as music is concerned!
And if, on the one hand, these singers show great proximity to the region, on the other, the Algarve also does not let love for the boss fall into oblivion.
In March this year, the BoaVista hotel in Albufeira, where Paul Mccartney was staying in the '60s, made it a point to point out the 61 years of “Yesterday”, given the connection of the moment of music composition with the journey that the singer made between Lisbon and the Algarve.
