“ Aby the end of June, the number of AI companies exceeded 6,600, representing 15% of the world total,” said the Chinese Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) in a press release published on social networks this Monday.
According to CAICT, the AI industry in China has established a “comprehensive industrial ecosystem that includes basic infrastructure, model structures and industrial applications”.
The academy reported that the industrial chain of the AI is divided into the infrastructure layer, the layer of model structures and the application layer.
“ In 2025, China’s AI infrastructure layer size grew by 59% compared to the previous year, representing 38% of the total; the layer size of AI model structures increased by 189%, representing 7%, and the layer size of AI applications increased by 22%, representing 55%,” added CAICT.
CAIC noted that China’s artificial intelligence industry is “highly concentrated” in terms of geographical distribution. Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Shandong lead the development of AI together, these five provinces represent more than 80% of China's AI industry.
The academy described the AI sector in China as “in full expansion”, with technological innovations reaching a number of advances, “marking an unprecedented period of vitality.”.
The Chinese technology Alibaba presented this week the Qwen3.8-Max, its most advanced artificial intelligence model to date, in a new step in competition between the leading Chinese and North American programmers of reasoning, programming and autonomous agents systems.
Qwen has become one of the main pillars of Alibaba's investment in artificial intelligence and cloud computing, areas where the group has announced investments of more than 52 billion dollars (EUR 45 billion) over three years.
The launch takes place at a time of strong dynamism in the Chinese AI sector after the presentation of models such as the Kimi K3, Moonshot, or the GLM-5.2, Zhipu, and in full technological competition between China and the United States for technologies considered strategic.
