A italian island of Sicily was today shaken by a series of strong earthquakes, which led many people to flee to the streets with fear of collapse of buildings, but there is no record of injuries or material damage.
The strongest earthquake, recorded at 12.19 locals (11.19 from Lisbon), reached a magnitude of 5.0 and had its epicenter in the south of the Tirreno Sea, northwest of the Eolias Islands, according to data from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), having been felt throughout the island, from Palermo to Catania.
According to INGV, nine other earthquakes with magnitude greater than 3.0 in the same zone were recorded.
The city of Palermo, which created a Center for Coordination of Help in collaboration with Civil Protection, reported that, so far, no damage has been recorded to people or property after the severe earthquakes, which frightened the population of this island in southern Italy.
In addition to the students of various schools, also employees of some public services, including the City Hall, were removed from the buildings where they were just in case.
The Coordination Center will remain operational until the alarm is lifted.
