Sunderland doesn't give up on Geny Catamo, but there's an obstacle in sight

Sunderland is no closer to giving up trying to hire Geny Catamo to Sporting, but the truth is that the price may be a hindrance to business, since the Premier League club is not prepared to pay the termination clause.

Geny Catamo is a coveted player after a somewhat irregular start of season in Sporting. The extreme Mozambican began the season in the best way, but has been losing the ‘gas’ in the Lion attack. Still, the international press on Monday realizes that Sunderland is not rethinking his interest in the player and will even try to hire him.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, through Sky Sports from Switzerland, the lions' 10 shirt remains well present in the list of potential black cats reinforcements, although there is an obstacle to take into account.

His search for an extreme right remains active and Geny Catamo should be revisited in January, although the budget for the transfer must be approved internally by the club's management.

The same publication indicates that Sunderland is interested in the international extreme by Mozambique, but is not willing to pay more than 35 million euros for the 25-year-old player.

After a proposal rejected on the summer transfer market valued at around EUR 30 million, Sporting's response should be the same as a few months ago: either they pay the termination clause valued at EUR 60 million or nothing.

Coach Régis Le Bris likes Catamo's profile, in order to complement Malick Fofana's in the opposite wing of Sunderland's attack, although the way he flirts to the middle from the right is something that attracts even more English leaders to a huge investment by the Alvalade club player.

Interest exists, but money is another story

Although interest has been active since the last transfer market, the truth is that Sunderland may not be able to obtain the necessary authorisation to access the funds if it can reach an agreement with Sporting.

This is because the direction of the black cats has not yet given the green light to be made a ‘serious’ attack for the extreme of 25 years, requiring further internal meetings to reach a decision on whether or not to be made a formal proposal by the international by Mozambique.

However, Geny Catamo's presence in Sunderland's transfer targets is undeniable, even though it has fierce Premier League club competition.

In addition to the whole of Northern England, there is still interest on the part of its rivals Newcastle United, as well as Everton, Leeds United, Bournemouth and even Brentford.

This season, Geny Catamo has 12 games played by Sporting, with a total of two goals scored and four assists in his registration, having contract until June 2029 with the green and white set.

Decision made. Sunderland will resume ‘attack’ to Sporting by Geny

British sports press reports that Sunderland will return to the cargo by Geny Catamo, as early as January, after Sporting rejected investments of more than 30 million euros in the summer. However, there is no shortage of competition.
