ANDm reported, Transtejo Soflusa stressed that the new river link establishes a direct link between the municipalities of Seixal and Barreiro, without the need to pass through Lisbon, keeping valid the current transport permits, and promotes a greater integration of the public transport network in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon.
The company, which ensures the river connections between the two banks of the Tagus, also said that the operation appears as “answer to the need to improve accessibility between two important urban hubs of the South Bank, creating new opportunities for travel for social, tourist, cultural and commercial purposes”.
Transtejo Soflusa also stressed that new careers not only promote “more efficient use of the existing river network”, but also benefit passengers with a “reduction of travel times between the two municipalities”.
Among other benefits for passengers, the company highlighted the increased flexibility for weekend leisure activities and the possibility of carrying out circular routes through the combination of different modes of public transport.
