O President of the United States, Donald Trump, promised this Monday that he would not rename the Mississippi River, unlike what he did with the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, but considers renaming the Atlantic Ocean.
In a campaign rally for the November parliamentary elections held in the state of Mississippi, Trump said that, in the context of his administration's tensions with the two neighbouring countries, he changed the name, in federal documents, of both geographical formations for Gulf of America and Lake of America and once again suggested the possibility of changing the name of the Atlantic Ocean.
“ I'm thinking about the Atlantic Ocean. Let's call it the American Ocean. I think Europe will love it,” he said. “I promise. The Mississippi River; I will not change the name of Mississippi”, he added, laughing, before thousands of participants in Corinth.
“ Can you imagine, ladies and gentlemen? ‘I am pleased to announce that we will change the name of...’ Oh, what state are we in? Oh, we're in Mississippi. I’m in a complicated situation,” the New York tycoon joked.
Trump, who has been deeply involved in legislative elections, participating in one or more daily rallies due to the poor results of Republicans in various polls, had already stated other campaign events that he did not intend to change the name of the United States river with the greatest flow.
The polls point out that Republicans, affected by the rising cost of living, the unpopularity of Trump and the war against Iran, will lose control of the House of Representatives in the mid-term elections on November 3, in which Democrats may also compete in the Senate.
The elections will renew the 435 seats of the House of Representatives and a third of the Senate.
