Uhow to reduce the risk of kidney stones goes through hydration? The truth is, there are drinks that could be making that risk higher. Says he's a urologist interviewing Parade magazine.
Shiv Patel is a urologist at AAUrology and has warned you of the risks of a drink that may be affecting your health.
Kidney stones: Just lack of water?
He began by saying that lack of water is one of the main points that leads to this health problem. “If I had to point out the highest common denominator in almost all types of kidney stones, it would be insufficient water intake. Concentrated urine is what really allows these minerals to crystallize” says Shiv Patel.
“People who do not drink enough water, transpire a lot, exercise frequently or work in warm environments may be particularly susceptible,” the expert continues.

How does cold tea consumption affect the kidneys?
On the other hand, regarding the alcohol that may lead to increased risk, the specialist warned about the consumption of alcohol cold teas, because they're made from a black tea base. “Black tea, which is the basis of most iced tea, is relatively rich in oxalate, and oxalate is one of the main components of the most common type of kidney stone.”
“If you limit the consumption of cold tea to two glasses a day, there is no problem. But if you overeat it, the risk of kidney stones increases. This is because excessive consumption of cold tea causes the accumulation of oxalate, which can lead to the formation of stones” continues Shiv Patel in an interview with Parade magazine.
In addition to cold tea, the expert warned for the consumption of another drink that may lead to this problem. We talked about grapefruit juice. “Several studies have associated the regular consumption of grapefruit juice with a significantly higher risk of kidney stones, for reasons that we do not yet fully understand,” says the urologist.
Taste disorders? Careful, it may be a sign of severe kidney disease
You think kidney problems just start with back pain? This is one of the most common symptoms, but the truth is that small changes in the taste may also indicate that something serious is happening with this organ. An expert explains everything.
Kalyani Perumal is a nephrologist and Parade magazine has revealed what changes in taste may reveal serious kidney problems. When small changes happen when you taste some food, you can easily think that something is going on with the product itself. However, it may prove to be something more worrying.
Is severe kidney disease noticeable in the palate?
So feeling a good metallic taste might indicate that something is wrong with your kidneys. The body’s ability to eliminate certain types of toxins is compromised by what accumulates metals in the bloodstream and may affect the bloodstream.
In this way, meals that had everything to be tasty may have such metallic or salty taste, which may affect your appetite. “Renal disease is a silent killer, so many have no sign of the disease until they are in advanced stages“, first say Kalyani Perumal.
The expert also revealed that in certain cases the change in taste does not occur alone and may be accompanied by other factors that deserve some extra attention. “Excessive fatigue, altered taste sensation, swelling of the legs, face and abdomen, itching of the skin, bad sleep, muscle cramps, lack of appetite and mental slowness are some of the signs that people notice.”
