A Volvo Cars updates its market strategy for the coming years, planning launch 13 new models globally by the end of 2030 - on an ambitious offensive.
Seven of them will be for Western markets, while six will be for China, in a “regionalised light portfolio” that will include electric, electrified cars and the third generation of hybrids.
The Swedish manufacturer’s objective is “double your market share“, relying on a growth of electric cars and third generation hybrids – with which he believes he can convince those who “are still reluctant to adopt a fully electric vehicle”.
As far as Western markets are concerned, new software-defined vehicles and electrified vehicles will be based on SPA2 and SPA3 platforms, as well as the HuginCore computing platform.
This will reduce investment in technology and manufacturing, while it aims to develop new electric cars for China – taking advantage of the partnership with Geely. This collaboration will also be dedicated to a technological base dedicated to that country, platforms, components and shared supply chain.
The launch of these 13 new models will also lead Volvo to new segments and “to the next age of design”, in addition to increasing the supply in the main markets (China, the United States of America and Europe) and the range.
Volvo Cars CEO and CEO Hakan Samuelsson said in a statement: “Our dealers will look very different in 2030. This is our strongest product offensive ever, tailored to regional needs, and emphasizes our ambition to be the leading premium car brand.”.
