If you think the best is really the best end of dayYou're wrong. “At the end of the day, food, liquids and digestion are still underway, which causes your weight to increase between one and two kilos,” explains Jean Sousa.

“ During these hours and periods, the balance lies! The number may end up demotivating senseless ", warns the specialist. On the other hand, it points out what is the best time to climb the scale and register.

“It should always be done at the same time, preferably in the morning, after going to the bathroom and before eating. Remember: what matters is not the number of a day, but the consistency over time. Take pictures, observe your clothes and notice the changes in the mirror ", advises Jean Sousa.

You must not use the balance every day

The scale is one of the most feared objects in the house. Although it is practical and easy to use, the information it reveals can have a devastating effect for those who read it.

If, on the one hand, the use of the balance is positive because it serves as an ally in the alert of excess weight, on the other, it can also be an enemy of the person’s state of mind. And that's why people shouldn't weigh themselves every day.

How does the Spanish newspaper explain El Confidential, people intend to lose weight (or control as much as they have) and who weigh themselves regularly tend to be at the mercy of the value that the balance presents and that does not vary as much as desired, and can easily discourage when the result is not what is intended. And what is the most direct consequence? Lay all the effort on the ground and surrender to the old saying of the ‘lost by a hundred, lost by a thousand’.

In addition to creating too high an expectation, the balance that is commonly held at home does not distinguish muscle and fat, and the high weight may be the result of increased muscle mass and not necessarily accumulated fat. But since the person does not know this, the probability of feeling sad, depressed and discouraged is great, as well as the risk of falling into temptation to compensate for the effort made so far and that (in his head) was of nothing.

In practice, the scale presents only numbers and says nothing about the body composition, not so little about the person's state of health, so weighing up every day is of no value for progress or success in weight loss. The ideal is to regularly consult a nutritionist and make the appropriate assessment with the professional.

Losing weight after 50 years can be difficult, but there are habits that can help. Experts have revealed to EatingWell what should be prioritized at this stage, as well as the strategies that help achieve the expected number in the scale.
