Com only six days to compete, in the sport season of 2026 do Brasileirão, Cruzeiro remains very alive in the race for clearance places for the next edition of the Libertadores Cup, thanks to the triumph won, early Friday to Saturday, on Remo, by 1-0.

The goal that made the difference, in the Stadium Governor Magalhães Pinto (better known as Mineirão), arose in one of the last bids before the Brazilian referee Bruno Arleu had sounded the whistle for the interval, when, in charging a corner kick, Matheus Pereira crossed the ball to the big area, where appeared Fabrício Bruno to divert, head on, to the bottom of the goal guarded by Marcelo Rangel.

The former Sporting and Sporting Chaves player has once again proved to be fundamental to the team guided by Portuguese coach Artur Jorge, so that, at the age of 30, he is already living the most productive time of his career, with 14 goals and 12 assists after 52 official games.

“We did not play a brilliant game, but it was a very, very important victory”

The result was positive, but at the press conference that followed the final whistle, Artur Jorge assumed that the Cruzeiro owed more to himself: “In short, I think what is worth in this game is victory. It is a game that reproduces, in practical terms of display, a night more unbreathed than usual, but enough to win”.

“The championship is coming to an end, and we need to win, we need consistency. Today, we did not play a brilliant game, but it was a very, very important victory in a difficult game. I say again that all fights are worthy, and we fight for one goal. Remo fights for another, different from ours, and each has its goals ", he said.

“ These six remaining games will decide a lot of what the end of the season will be for the Cruise. Of course we are satisfied today, because in terms of championship, we made a qualitative leap, but also classificative, huge ", continued, in statements reproduced by the Brazilian portal Globesport.

“There’s a lot we wish we had done better. We cannot be satisfied just with what we have already done. We had a sequence that allowed us to reach the position we're in today, fighting for bigger goals. I said, from the first day I arrived, that Cruzeiro had individual quality and needed to increase the collective ", completed.

The Cruise accounts in Brasileirão

After the accounts, with this result, Cruzeiro starts to add 54 points and provisionally isolates himself in the third position of Brasileirão, leaving behind Fluminense (which will still visit Chapecoense) and Athletico Paranaense (which has a meeting with Vitória), which have, respectively, 51 and 53 points.

The conquest of the national champion title is still mathematically possible... but unlikely, given that, in front, Arthur Jorge's men have the Flamengo, Leonardo Jardim (who will receive the Atlético Mineiro), and the Palmeiras, Abel Ferreira (who will face Bragantino), respectively, 67 and 66 points.
