ANDmbora o space under the bed seems, provisionally, an affordable place of great storage, it's not always the best bet to make more room in the room.
Regardless of the type of bed or space under it, experts in organization and interior decoration reveal to the blog Martha Stewart which you shouldn't even keep in this space.
These experts also warn that, in some cases, you may be putting your health at risk, others the life of the items themselves.
Shoes
“The next time you think about taking off your shoes and putting them under the bed, think again. In addition to being one of the fastest ways to lose shoes, this can make your room messy, accumulate dust and debris,” says Tina Priestly, owner and CEO of Ready, Set, FRESH.
Documents
“The paper is more likely to be damaged if it is left unattended over time in a dark, muffled place.”.
Electronic devices no longer used
Do you collect objects that no longer have any functionality? Whether it's cargo cables, cameras or old cell phones, these experts make sure that the part under the bed is not the most sensible place to gather these kinds of objects, especially if you still intend to give them a second life.
Melanie Summers, a professional organizer, recommends storing old gadgets and tangled cables in a box designed only for technology, preferably away from the space that wants to keep calm and technology-free, that is, the bed.
Seasonal items
Although it may seem practical to store seasonal items, such as clothing or decoration of festive seasons under the bed, this “can lead to a cycle of neglect and accumulation of dirt, points Melanie Summers, founder and CEO of I Speak Organized. It is best to store seasonal items in boxes up to your eyes, in a closet, in the garage elsewhere easily accessible.
Often used clothing and accessories
Any clothing or accessory that is of constant use at the level of the floor may be a nuisance in the day to day, and may also delay you because you cannot find the clothing so easily.
Personal memories
While it may seem exciting to have some sentimental memories stored under the bed, these experts say that these items should be stored elsewhere in the house. “It’s not just about physical mess,” Summers says. “Guarding items with emotional weight, such as old journals or past relationships, can subconsciously affect your mood and energy.”
Leather items
The environment under the bed is prone to accumulation of dust, dirt and bacteria that can cause great damage to your leather items. Instead of storing items such as leather coats, shoes and bags under the bed, consider storing them in a closet in the hallway where they will be better protected. When stored in wrong areas, the leather can even develop mold or damage itself over time”, explains Priestly.
