“My message to governments is simple: don’t wait”Guterres, in a statement to the press in New York, asked for a preliminary report from the International Scientific Panel. Independent created by the UN on AI.
“Well used, AI can be the most powerful engine for development, accelerating world progress in everything, from health and hunger to learning and climate. But the Panel is also aware of the damage that artificial intelligence can cause”, pointed out.
Without going into details on the results of the report, Guterres warned of the need to address all the potential and risks of this technology.
“Science is here. We can't say we didn't know anymore. What we will do with it now depends on all of us,” said the UN leader, in presenting to the press the panel’s co-chairmen, Yoshua Bengio and Maria Ressa, who in turn exposed the conclusions of the preliminary report.
Next week in Geneva, the first Global Dialogue on IA Governance will bring Member States together to move forward in joint action.
