Plink minus 22 people died and several were injured following a frontal collision between a bus and a heavy vehicle on the road between Nairobi and Mombasa this morning in Kenya.
According to the Kenyan media, the accident occurred between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. locals (between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. in Lisbon) and cut the road to traffic.
The front collision with a heavy vehicle will have occurred when the bus traveled from Mombasa to the Kenyan capital, carrying passengers returning from a funeral ceremony.
Makuani County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif in South East Kenya confirmed to Kenyan media that the collision caused at least 22 fatalities.
The fatalities were transported to the hospital of the Mtito Andei Subcondite, clarified the medical superintendent of this health unit located near the crash site, Kevin Wamalwa.
According to him, some of the victims will have died immediately while others later died due to the severity of the injuries.
“It’s a serious accident. We are helping the survivors,” Kevin Wamalwa told The Star.
“ We're drawing up a list of the victims. Some died while receiving treatment,” he added.
The authorities have not yet determined the causes of the accident.
This collision occurs two weeks after another accident, involving several vehicles, caused the death of 17 people, on the same route that connects Nairobi to Mombasa.
