Mtoday, 20 journalists from the magazine Saturday expressed their solidarity with the 12 colleagues from the graphic department of Medialivre who are being dismissed, including five paginators from the magazine, today released the Writing Council.
The press group of Saturday magazine that signs the document underlines “their solidarity with the 12 colleagues in the graphic department of Mediafree who are being fired, in particular with the five magazine paginators, and affirm their respect and appreciation for the work and professionalism they have shown in the magazine over several years,” they say, in a press release.
“ We are very perplexed by the fact that the entire graphic department of the magazine has been fired overnight”, they add.
The essay sees in this dismissal “— done without any transition of portfolio, without prior articulation with the journal’s editorials, and without being granted to professionals the possibility of adapting to other functions consistent with the changes of the press — the continuation of the disinvestment in the quality of the journal, which is added to the collective dismissal of photojournalists in the previous year”, warn.
Saturday magazine “is an editorially relevant title, made by dedicated professionals, and deserves to be defended”, they finish.
Medialivre, owner of the Mail of the Morning and the Business Journal, confirmed on Wednesday that it will reduce the team of the graphic department of the press, following the increase of automation.
“ The evolution of the media market, with the decrease in the consumption of the press and increasing consumption in the digital implies that, in order to maintain competitiveness, there must be a technological evolution and the transformation of media production processes”, said official source.
In this context, “adequate human resources structure is under way, which includes reducing the size of the press graphic department team, due to increasing levels of automation, integration of functions and current operational needs,” said the same source, without advancing numbers.
This reorganization “aims to ensure the alignment of the department’s structure with the current production model and the company’s strategic guidelines, in order to ensure a sustainable business model”, according to the company.
