At the time of washing, this is one of the most common indecisions among consumers – some people switch to the use of one and another type of detergent – and according to some cleaning experts to The Spruce, this may even be the most sensible decision, but there are rules!
Basically, it is not enough to do so just because, in fact, these cleaning experts ensure that this means that it is bringing unnecessary costs.
If you want to save on the amount of products you need for each wash, as well as preserving your washing machine, you should start looking to use these products intelligently, as “the type of detergent you use can have a great impact on the overall quality of each wash,” they point out.
So when should you use each of these detergents?
The ideal scenario, according to these experts, is to adapt the type of detergent to the needs of each garment. Sofia Martinez, CEO of Sparkly Maid Austin, says that, as a rule, she directs customers to keep both products handy for different needs.

Let's get down to business!
When to use the detergent powder?
“ The powder version tends to overcome the liquid detergent for difficult stains based on dirt and on the cost per load, while the liquid detergent stands out in terms of convenience, performance in cold water and oilier spots ", says Sofia Martinez.
“ Powder detergent is especially effective in removing, for example, clay marks, dirt or traces of dust,” adds cleaning expert Jessica Ek, vice president of strategic communications at the American Cleaning Institute. In addition, it confirms that when using this type of detergent for these particularities, the price per wash can also be significantly lower.
Rechelle Balanzat, founder of Juliette's laundry, clarifies that although the detergent powder the effectiveness of this product “may depend on the temperature of the washing cycle”, i.e, “it works better in warm or warm water, since it does not always dissolve so well in cold washes”.
When to use liquid detergent?
Martinez says that he usually uses liquid detergent for cold cleaning, delicate items or even for hand washing some clothes. “The liquid detergent dissolves completely even at low temperatures and tends to be softer with tissues,” he explains.
