O euro fell today for the second consecutive session, resuming the $1.11 on a day when Brent's barrel price exceeded the 115 dollar barrier for the first time since May.
At 18:00 (Lisbon time), the euro was worth $1.1193, when on Thursday, at 18:08, it negotiated at $1,1225.
The euro also fell against the pound and compared to the yen.
The European Central Bank (ECB) has today set the euro reference exchange at 1,1193 dollars.
The price of the reference Brent barrel in Europe for delivery in December today exceeded 115 dollars in the London futures market, a level that has not been reached since May, due to the war in the Middle East and the seizure of further disruptions in oil supply, while the gas price reached peaks at the end of 2022.
Since the US started the war against Iran in February, the rise in oil prices has not always led to a depreciation of the euro, as, by fuelling rising inflation forecasts, it also favored the expectations of increasing interest rates by the European Central Bank (ECB).
Eurozone consumers have raised inflation rate expectations to 3.1% in September versus August and predict less economic growth in the next 12 months, according to a survey by the ECB, which has been released today.
