Elderly missing in Aveiro located by GNR drone

Um elderly who disappeared in the parish of Fajões, municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis, in the district of Aveiro, early on Monday, October 26, was located hours after the alert, thanks to a drone of the Republican National Guard (GNR).

In a note shared on social networks, GNR reveals that it received the report of disappearance by relatives of the elderly. The same had been absent from his residence at dawn.

The military immediately started the police steps to try to locate the man. However, as they were not able to find it, they triggered the UAV (Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle) means of the Emergency Protection and Help Unit (UEPS) and the kinotechnical binomials of the Aveiro Intervention Detachment.

Thus, at 5.55 p.m., the elderly was located, “in a place of difficult access, away from residences and dwellings, near the bush”.

The elderly received, according to the GNR, “immediately”, medical assistance to assess their health status, and was subsequently transported to the hospital of Santa Maria da Feira.

The action was carried out by the Aveiro Territorial Command, through the Cesar Territorial Post, and was supported by military personnel and the Emergency Unit Protection and Help, by Binomial Cinotechnics of the Aveiro Intervention Detachment, the Section of Criminal Prevention and Community Police and the Voluntary Fajões Firefighters.

The Fajões Freguesia Board, which had shared an appeal about the disappearance of the elderly, also shared the good news.

“The Junta de Freguesia comes through this way to inform that Mr. Francisco Aguiar has already been found and is well and secure,” they announced, thanking “the whole community, volunteers and local authorities who mobilized immediately and shared the appeal.”.

“ Your rapid human frame and spirit of solidarity were fundamental to the positive outcome of this situation. Thank you all for your collaboration and active citizenship”, they wrote.
