A Liberal Initiative proposes the hearing of the former President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, former Prime Minister António Costa and the Bastonary of the Bar Association on the committee of inquiry into the mandates of Luís Neves in the Judicial Police.
According to the request, to which the Lusa agency had access, the IL wants to call 45 people to testify on the parliamentary committee of inquiry, immediately the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, central figure of the inquiry.
In addition to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and António Costa, the liberals also want to hear the bastonary of the Bar Association, João Massano, Vítor Escária, who was chief of staff of former Prime Minister António Costa, Lucília Gago, former Attorney General of the Republic, and Rita Alarcão Júdice, Minister of Justice.
The IL also requests the hearing of several people currently or previously linked to the Judiciary Police, including the national director, Carlos Cabreiro, Almeida Rodrigues, former national director, Álvaro Pires, director of financial and patrimonial management services, and several former and current national assistant directors.
The Liberals also request the hearing of former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration Ricardo Carrilho, the contractor of Construbarcelos João dos Santos Carvalho and of journalists Sandra Felgueiras and Felícia Cabrita.
As for documents, the IL said, in a statement, that it required “access to the personal bank statements of Luís Neves while he was the national director of the Judicial Police, to the scriptures of the Alentejo hills purchased by him in 2024 and 2025, to the movements of the credit card he used in the Judicial Police and to the identifier Via Verde of the car seized Ruben Oliveira, known as ‘Xuxas’, in the context of Operation Exotic Fruit”.
The parliamentary committee of inquiry for “evaluation of the intervention of Luís Neves as director of the PJ during all his mandates (2018-2026) and possible responsibility of members of the Government who appointed and protected him” took office last week.
The next meetings are scheduled for Monday (table and coordinators) and for Tuesday (ordinary meeting), two hours before the start of the general discussion of the State Budget for 2027. The leader of the Aquista, André Ventura, presides over this inquiry.
The investigation was forced by Aquisa following the polemics that came to the public in recent months involving Luís Neves, related to works on the property of the now minister made by a company that concluded contracts with PJ, or the tied with chemicals seized in an operation that was stored in the premises of that company.
