O israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered today what he designated “total blockade” of the occupied West Bank after an armed attack that made five wounded, a few days from the legislative elections of 27 October in Israel.
A “large-scale attack” was avoided, the Prime Minister said through a government statement, stating that he ordered the immediate blockade of the city of Hebron — near which the attack occurred — as well as a “total blockade” of the West Bank throughout the day.
At the same time, Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, defended the “dismantling” of the Palestinian Authority in response to the attack on the occupied West Bank that made several wounded.
“We should not expect an October 7th to happen (in the West Bank). That is where the next war will start,” said the far-right minister in a statement, referring to the 2023 attack by the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement on the territory of Israel.
“The Palestinian Authority should be dismantled and demilitarized,” Ben-Gvir added.
The Israeli army announced today that it killed two Palestinian citizens after an automatic weapon attack in the occupied West Bank, which made five wounded, according to Israel's relief teams.
“ After a shooting attack in Judea, the soldiers eliminated the two terrorists,” the Israeli army said in a statement.
Since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and that triggered the war in Gaza, violence has worsened in the West Bank, a territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
At least 1,113 Palestinians have been killed in the region since October 2023, mostly by Israeli soldiers, according to the balance sheet prepared by the French-Presse (AFP) agency based on data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The United Nations noted that 37 people were killed by Israeli settlers.
According to the figures released by Israel, at least 49 Israeli citizens were killed in the same period, most in attacks carried out by Palestinians, but also during military operations.
