O lieutenant of Guardia Civil Miguel Ángel Barbero, the maximum responsible for the fight against drug trafficking in the Segovia region of Spain, was arrested in September for being suspected of... drug trafficking.
The man was discovered following a telephone conversation with a friend, in which he questions him whether there was a need for this ride in a high - speed car and whether he could not be more discreet. The question, which could be just a normal conversation between friends, would arouse the interest of the authorities who would come to conclude what was already suspected: this friend was a drug trafficker and had the help of the Civil Guardian military for his business.
According to the investigation by the authorities, it has more than 600 files that include photographs and recorded conversations. Miguel Barbero acted as an intermediary between a drug dealer who was able to get cocaine in Madrid to sell in Segovia.
The investigation concluded that the military intervened “in a discreet manner in different stages of the operations of the purchase of drugs” and that it used official but uncharacterized vehicles and their role in the Civil Guardia to justify their encounters with the criminals being investigated.
His technique was to use other names to refer to drugs that went unnoticed. One of its suppliers, for example, owned a ham business and used precisely that term to refer to the drug product without anyone being suspicious.
But it was a conversation about cars that would turn him in. The man would have been upset with a drug dealer who had bought a Porsche Panamera worth 100,000 euros.
“ It goes unnoticed, motherfucker!”, said Miguel Ángel Barbero angry, having triggered the investigation that would end his arrest.
The investigation also points out that Barbero may have used his access to the Civil Guardia databases to try to protect members of the criminal network.
The lieutenant remains in custody and is charged with drug trafficking, bribery, obtaining and disclosing secrets and belonging to a criminal group,
