Grites of order in favor of Lula da Silva, winner of the Brazilian presidential elections on Sunday, marked the last moments of today's camp in Rossio, in Lisbon, uniting the Portuguese and Brazilians in shouting against fascism.
“What is, is, Lula” and “Grândola Vila Morena” were sung instead in the first hours of today in Rossio square, after the Brazilian President had achieved re-election.
Portuguese Luís Friezas carried the red ‘t-shirt’ with the face of Lula da Silva and effusively celebrated the “victory against Trump”, embraced to Brazilian and Portuguese friends.
“ It is a victory against Trump, against the Monroe doctrine, against the imperialism of the United States”, said the young man, who integrates the protests for housing, from the first hour.
Brazilian Bruno, with the jersey of the Brazilian team (typical of the supporters of Flávio Bolsonaro, the defeated candidate), was one of those who embraced Luís.
“ This is my sweater, it's ours. I can be a patriot without being a fascist”, said the young man, who did not expect a victory of Lula.
“ I was ready to go home, sad. I never thought this would happen,” I told Lusa.
However, Bruno knows that the next four years will be difficult: “He has neither Senate nor Congress. But at least we resist fascism”.
During this legislature, it is “necessary to build a victorious solution again”, because “he [Flávio Bolsonaro] will continue here and Lula can no longer run again”, he warned.
Lula da Silva's victory was followed with attention by protesters in Rossio, with many mobile phones connected in the election results.
Tonight, unlike other times, a smaller mobilization of Brazilian activists, immigrants who helped in the camp animation, was visible.
“ They had more to worry about today, we understand. Also because they won and everything”, says Artur Santiago, one of the participants of all these actions who went on Saturday to escape PSP.
“ It was a Brazilian who helped my group, took us to an open door of a building ", avoiding the police charge, he recalled.
For tonight, the movement decided to demobilize, but the party in celebration of Brazil will continue.
“There is no caipirinha out there,” one of the protesters questioned, after singing “The Train of Eleven”, by Adoniran Barbosa, which has as a chorus “I cannot stay”, to respect the organization’s decision to demobilize the protest tonight.
The prosecutors preferred to focus on the vigils for this morning and afternoon on the campus of justice, to accompany the judicial interrogations to the detainees.
However, dozens of people remained in the square, but no sign of the tents that have motivated tension with the police.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was re-elected today in the second round of Brazil's presidential elections, with 51.75% of the votes, for the fourth term as head of state, and made history as the first candidate to win after losing in the first round.
Lula da Silva won 63,388,523 votes against 59,099. 143 of Flávio Bolsonaro, when 98.76% of the voting sections were counted.
