Mof 2,670 people were “forcibly removed from their homes in Hebron, in the West Bank, since Friday, in an Israeli army operation, triggered following an attack on the territory, the Palestinian Authority announced today.

“ More than 2,670 Palestinians were moved by the Israeli occupation forces, mostly women, children and the elderly,” said the Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa’s office on social network X, citing data from the city council located in the south of the West Bank.

Two Israeli soldiers were killed on Friday in an attack near Hebron, the largest city in Israel's territory since 1967.

This attack led Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to launch a military operation that he designated “anti-terrorism” in the West Bank and to order the “total blockade” of the territory.

As part of the operation, Israeli forces entered the Ein Deir Baha neighborhood, which claimed to be the place where the two attackers lived, and ordered the residents to gather their belongings and leave their homes.

On Saturday, the Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that about 2,000 Palestinians had been “removed” from their homes during the operation.

Today, Israeli military vehicles and soldiers still remained positioned in the streets of Hebron, according to images from the France Presse Agency (AFP).

Higazi al-Tamimi, a local merchant who also serves as a representative of the evacuated neighborhood, accused Israeli soldiers of assaulting him the moment he tried to return home.

“ One or two people started hitting my legs, my chest and my shoulders. One of them even struck me in the head”, reported to AFP from his hospital bed.

“ Then they pushed me back, and I continued to move forward until I reached a safe zone,” he added.

The Israeli army maintains the order to block the West Bank occupied for the election day on Tuesday.
